People buy our Botanical Perfume because they smell great, right? Yes! And with Goodthings there is an added bonus... the Ingredients! ✨
I define the Clean Beauty Movement as “a growing number of health aware people looking for safer products, free of petro-chemicals, to use on themselves and on the ones they love.”
As it turns out, clean beauty is not a yes or no proposition, it comes in degrees or levels. We'll call them Low, Medium, and High (aka "Really Clean").
There is a basic level of clean, let's call it Low, which is simply the absence of the toxic offenders such as Phthalates, Parabens, and Formaldehyde in the product.
The next level of clean, let’s call it Medium, includes the absence of toxic offenders and not using synthetic ingredients considered to be unsafe.
This includes synthetic ingredients known to be hormone disruptors like Benzophenone-3 which is used as a scent stabilizer in commercial fragrances, and synthetic musks which are used to prolong scent in commercial fragrances, some of which have been shown to accumulate in the body and disrupt the endocrine system.
Some synthetics, like artificially produced Vanillin which is meant to give the sweet smell of vanilla, are considered safe in small concentrations but don’t provide the full atmospheric earthy, boozy smell the real, organically grown vanilla we use has. 🙂
The next level of clean, let’s call it High (aka "Really Clean"), contains no synthetics (ones considered safe or unsafe), no colorants, and no toxins – only real, natural ingredients that come from plants. Just good things.
Goodthings proudly uses only natural ingredients, which is why we are called a Botanical Perfumery. 🌱
We use essential oils that are certified organic whenever available, and our alcohol is made from organic cane sugar. Many natural ingredients have a more complex scent profile than synthetics and can be more complex to work with, but in our opinion, it’s worth it.
